Treatment

Early and effective treatment of esophageal varices to achieve hemostasis is essential. Ethamolin is a sclerosing agent which when injected into the varix achieves clot formation. Obliteration of the varix through multiple treatment sessions is the main clinical objective. Ethamolin is the only FDA approved sclerosing agent indicated for the treatment of patients with esophageal varices that have recently bled, to prevent rebleeding.
